A typical middle-stage development of the Sidewinder and a major improvement over the earlier 'B' model. The AIM-9J incorporates a greatly improved Ford Aerospace seeker head with thermoelectric cooling, increased tracking speed, part-solid-state electronics, detachable double-delta controls, and a long-burning gas generator.
